Privacy Policy

The short version: this site has no accounts, no sign-ups, and no database of users. Nothing you type into the tools here is sent to us or stored on a server. Two things do reach a server: the ads on some pages, and a visitor counter that records which country a visit came from and nothing else. This page explains exactly what each one does and how to switch the ads off.

Who runs this site

OurSharedCode is an independent personal project. There is no company behind it. You can reach the operator at hello@oursharedcode.com.

What we collect directly

No personal details. There is no registration, no login, no contact form and no newsletter. We do not ask for your name, your email address, or any other personal detail, and we have no database in which to keep one. There is no conventional analytics package here either — no Google Analytics, no tracking pixels, no profile of you built across sites. The single exception is the per-country visitor tally described under Visitor counter and map, which records a country code and nothing that identifies you.

Hosting

The site is served as static files by GitHub Pages. Like any web host, GitHub receives the technical information your browser sends in order to deliver a page — including your IP address, the page requested, and your browser type — and may keep it in server logs for security and operational purposes. That processing is GitHub's, not ours, and we have no access to those logs. See the GitHub Privacy Statement.

Prompt Engineering Studio

The tool at /prompt-engineering-studio/ runs entirely inside your browser. The prompts you write, the custom blocks you create, and your saved library are held in your browser's localStorage on your own device, and files you save go to a location you choose on your own disk. None of it is transmitted to us or to anyone else — there is no server component to transmit it to. Clearing your browser storage erases it, and we cannot recover it, because we never had a copy.

Advertising cookies

Some pages on this site show ads served by Google AdSense. Pages that do not contain ad code — including /free-english-books/ — do not run any advertising script at all.

• Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
• Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
• You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
• You can opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info/choices or youronlinechoices.com.

Opting out does not remove ads; it makes them non-personalised. You can also block cookies in your browser settings, which this site will tolerate without breaking.

Visitor counter and map

The studio page at /prompt-engineering-studio/ shows a small world map with a count of visitors by country. This is our own counter, not a third-party widget, and it works like this:

• When the page loads it calls a small service we run on Cloudflare Workers at promengi-visitor-stats.oursharedcode.workers.dev. Cloudflare passes that service the two-letter country code it has already worked out for the connection — DE, BR, and so on. We add one to the tally for that country.
• Your IP address is never stored. It is not saved to the tally, not written to a database of ours, and not kept in any log we hold. The only thing recorded against a country is a number.
• So that one person reloading the page is not counted twenty times, the service computes a one-way hash of your IP address, your browser's user-agent string and the current date, mixed with a secret key we hold. The hash cannot be turned back into an IP address, it changes every day, and it is deleted automatically after 12 hours. Its only purpose is to answer "have we counted this visit already?"
• The counter sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device.
• What appears on the page is all we can see ourselves: country codes and totals. There is no list of visitors, no per-person timestamps, no record of which pages you viewed, and nothing that could single you out.
• The tally is not shared with Google or anyone else, and it is never used for advertising, ad targeting, or ad measurement.

Cloudflare necessarily handles the request itself in order to run that service, under the Cloudflare Privacy Policy. If you would rather not be counted, blocking requests to oursharedcode.workers.dev in your browser or an extension leaves the rest of the page working normally.

Donation links

The page at /free-english-books/ links to Ko-fi and Buy Me a Coffee. Those links open on their sites, not ours. Any payment happens entirely on their platform under their own privacy policy and their own terms; we never see your card details, and we receive no personal information about you from them. Tipping is voluntary and nothing on this domain is sold.

Your rights

We hold no personal data about you. The visitor counter keeps only country totals, plus a short-lived hash that cannot be reversed or traced back to you and that expires within 12 hours. There is therefore nothing for us to export, correct, or delete on request — not a refusal, simply nothing on file that is yours. Rights you have under the GDPR, the UK GDPR, or the CCPA regarding data held by Google, GitHub, or Cloudflare should be directed to those companies, whose policies are linked above.

Children

This site is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the revised version will appear at this address with a new date at the top. Material changes — for instance, introducing analytics — will be described here rather than made quietly.
